Kidney
diseases and Ayurveda
Kidney
purifies blood and excretes many water soluble materials such as salts. If kidneys are not functioning properly,
these waste materials go on accumulating in the body leading to many symptoms
such as nausea, loss of appetite, anemia, weakness and swelling.
According
to ayurveda, process of urine formation begins in the large intestine
itself. This is where large amount of
water is absorbed from the food in last stage of digestion. This contains many salts which are later
removed via kidney and then excreted through urine.
Kidney
failure necessitates treatment with dialysis in many patients. Ayurvedic treatment is aimed towards
rejuvenating the kidney cells. It is
observed that Ayurvedic herbs can help reduce the frequency of dialysis, and
eventually in some patients, dialysis can be completely stopped.
Treatment
of this condition may involve internal treatment with herbs, panchakarma
treatment such as basti (medicated enenas), and some external applications.
